Accessibility

Turning letter-key shortcuts off, showing keyboard focus, reducing motion, and increasing contrast.

Your account's Accessibility page (/account/accessibility) holds the settings that change how the console answers the keyboard and how it looks. Each applies the moment you change it, and each is saved in the browser you change it in, as the theme and corners are: another browser or device keeps its own. They apply to the console, these docs and the site alike.

Keyboard

  • Letter-key shortcuts: on by default. Single keys such as g followed by a letter, c for a page's main action, j and k to step through the traces of a list or a session and o to open one, / for search and ? for the shortcuts sheet act on their own. Turn them off if you use voice control or a screen reader that passes keys to the page, so a dictated word never opens a page or starts an action. Shortcuts held with ⌘ (Ctrl on Windows and Linux) keep working, and the shortcuts sheet and the hints you see on hover then name only those.
  • Show focus: off by default. When on, whatever has keyboard focus carries a ring in the text colour, so you can see where you are as you move with Tab and the arrow keys. A field you type in shows it however you reached it; clicking a button or a link never draws it.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: opens the sheet of every shortcut that works on the page you are on.

Display

Reduce motion and Increase contrast each offer System, On and Off. System, the default, follows your device's own setting, and the page says what your device asks for right now.

  • Reduce motion: menus, the sidebar and dialogs appear at once instead of sliding and fading.
  • Increase contrast: secondary text is darker in the light theme and lighter in the dark one, past 9:1 against the page and 6.5:1 or more on every surface it sits on, and the edges of fields, cards and dividers stand out at 3:1 or more against the page and the cards they sit on.
